A piece of railway history has been brought back to life with the help of a £50,000 grant.
Middleton Bottom Wheel Pit, which lies along the High Peak Trail, at Wirksworth, has been restored by Derbyshire County Council using money from English Heritage.
The ancient monument, which operated from the 1820s until the 1960s, is one of two surviving structures which house machinery for pulling trucks up the Middleton Incline – part of the former Cromford and High Peak Railway.
Over the past five months specialists have restored the machinery, replaced decaying timbers and rebuilt the brickwork.
Two information panels have also been placed at the site to tell visitors about the history of the monument.
Cllr Brian Lucas, the county council's environmental chief, said the work had enabled the monument to be enjoyed by future generations.
He added: "Derbyshire has a rich railway heritage and I'm delighted that thanks to the grant from English Heritage we have been able to carry out this work to preserve it for the future."
