Shoppers will be able to scoot their way around Bakewell town centre - thanks to a cash windfall.
Midlands Co-op has donated money to the town's Shopmobility which provides scooters and wheelchairs to disabled people.

The service will now be available in Bakewell permanently to help more people take advantage of the scheme's facilities.

Speaking on behalf of Chesterfield and District Shopmobility, service manager Colin Mitchell, said: "A pilot study demonstrated a need for a permanent service, with an average of five people a day using the facility.

"In order to fund the service, Chesterfield and District Shopmobility approached local businesses for support and Midlands Co-op was delighted to help."

Cyrrhian Macrae, Midlands Co-op's head of community and co-operative affairs, added: "The Bakewell project is a great example of a local initiative which will be well used by residents and visitors alike. As a community retailer, Midlands Co-op is delighted to support such a well researched and popular project."

Bakewell Shopmobility is open on Fridays from 10am to 3pm. For further information on the scheme please contact (01246) 559331.
