The new term has already been a busy one for both staff and students at Tibshelf Community School in Derbyshire.
Just a few weeks into the new school year and the school’s two day theatre trip to London next July is already fully booked.
Staff at the school hope that the trip will build on the success of last year’s as the children are set to experience two musicals based on Roald Dahl’s Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Students will also visit Windsor, Covent Garden and take a trip to the landmarkLondon Eye.
Tibshelf Community School has also just been awarded two grants from the British Council to enhance their links with schools in Mumbai and Sri Lanka.
English and drama teacher, Tris Weston, will be traveling to The National English School in Virar, Mumbai in February 2015. Gauri Kilkarni will then be visiting Tibshelf in June 2015. Both schools will be exploring each other’s literature, culture and the role of drama around Global Citizenship issues.
This follows a very successful visit from Preeti Thakkar last term who worked with staff and students in Citizenship lessons building models of the Seven Wonders of the World including India’s Taj Mahal.
Sue Allen, international co-ordinator, will also be visiting Attadassi School in Sri Lanka in December. This visit will celebrate Tibshelf’s curriculum and charity projects during the last 10 years since the tragic Asian tsunami in December 2004.
