Youth service vital to community

Having the cabinet member for Young People as your representative on Derbyshire County Council is no guarantee of a solution to anti-social behaviour in your village.

Pilsley has not had a youth club (apart from a voluntary scheme which did not work) for years with the exception of a life line, the mobile youth club, which Cllr Lewis wants to abolish.

What is wrong with having a dedicated Youth Service, easily identifiable and responsible to the community, instead of a flying squad to engage the few anti-social young people at the expense of the majority?

The primary purpose of a Youth Service is to engage with young people in healthy activity in its broadest sense.

Learning to interact and take part in the community is vital and one hopes that Derbyshire County Council’s ‘A New Youth Offer’ while saving money retains its dedicated youth workers and trains more.
