I AM not, in principle, opposed to the three tier gritting idea but I cannot understand why Little Morton Road, North Wingfield, has been put in the tertiary category. It is a busy road with two bus routes connecting Chesterfield and Alfreton. It has the main exit off a large housing estate, at morning rush hour traffic tails back down the road with cars trying to get on to St Lawrence Road, which is a feeder road for the motorway. It connects the large villages of North Wingfield and Pilsley, and is the main route from Chesterfield to Pilsley.
It seems that the tertiary category, which the council hopes will be serviced by private contractors (farmers) is intended for roads not previously treated. Little Morton Road has been gritted for the past 48 years!
