Roots of problem run deep

Have your say

The letter dated September 1, from J.W.R. Clark (‘So, how did it really come to this?’, Times talk, September 1) deals intelligently with our specific present day problems and their causes. I would suggest however, that the roots of these causes are very much wider and older than many of us realise.

Recently I came across a passage written in 1933, in a book entitled Quaker Faith and Practice, “...faithful observance points the way to an issue greater than personal rectitude, it should lead to an examination of a system which permits or encourages these abuses, and to a demand for drastic change.”

It is almost eighty years since this advice was written in a non political journal and we can make these drastic changes if we have the political will to do so.
