Memories of Fairfield

As I’d had an operation to be able to have children I was advised to go into Fairfield to have my baby.

This was in 1957 and to me it was like a ten-day holiday. After my son was born I only saw him at feeding time as the rest of the time he was in the nursery. It was considered that the mother needed ten days’ bed rest.

I called my son Andrew, which pleased Dr Duthie as it was his name, though I wasn’t aware of it when picking the name.

Three years later I booked in again at Fairfield but decided to have a home birth. The clinic gave me a £2 refund voucher to put towards fees for use when going in for another baby. As I’m now 82 can I throw this away now?
