Please can anybody help me with my research about the Clark family of Bakewell?
My great-grandfather was Leonard Clark (1885-1971), a railway worker, originally from Bakewell, but who lived most of his life in Parliament Street, Derby. His wife was Mary ‘Polly’ Clark (nee Keeling) and his children included Phyllis Clark, my grandmother, who married my grandfather George Fearn.
Leonard was one of 18 children, born over a 40 year period to Henry Clark and his three wives – the first two wives both died young .
I have found information about most of his brothers and sisters but there are two that I cannot find any trace of; Albert Henry Clark (born 1895) was in the Sherwood Forresters 1/6th Battalion and was discharged from the army in Lichfield in 1915, but then seems to disappear; likewise Nellie Millicent Maria Clark (born 1898), who went in to service in 1911 but who also then disappears.
I know they had some cousins including Lillian Clark (later Holmes), who ran a newsagents in Bakewell; John Reginald Brown, who married Alma Hall; Mabel Eileen Brown who married Harold Adlington; John Frederick Marsden Clark who had a son called Frederick William Clark (died Bakewell, 1985); and also the Newtons, of Stanton Lees.
If anyone can help with my research, with information or photographs, I would be really grateful.
