I WRITE regarding parents’ parking endangering the lives of children.
As we live immediately behind Brockwell school, and as I frequently drive past the school just after 8.30am and return just before 9am, I can vouch for the fact that a good few of the parents dropping their children off there are treating it as a social occasion.
To put it mildly, these parents are a pain who cause a major traffic hazard.
I have noticed it is common to see cars parked outside school at 8.35am and still be there at 8.50am on my return.
Do they need 15 minutes to see their kids into school? One would think not.
I have thought for years that parents who overstay their time when dropping their children off are creating a situation which will one day lead to a potentially fatal accident, just because they want to chat with others until it is time to either go to their place of work or return home for the first sherry of the day.
If there was a member of the school staff or an appointed parent standing at the school gate from 8.30am until 9am to see the kids get into school safely then these parents could simply drop off their offspring and drive away, but somehow I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
