I read your recent article dated September 22 (‘Town In England’s Top 10 For Drug Deaths’) and frankly I was not surprised.
I have lived in Chesterfield for 26 years and in particular the area of Holmebrook Valley Park which, despite its lovely scenery and walks, is at certain times of the afternoon and evening a haunt for local drug dealers and users, some of whom openly smoke cannabis from their motor vehicles as early as 4pm during week days.
I have personally informed the police over the years but now I simply don’t bother.
I used to provide car registration numbers etc but NOTHING ever happened.
On one particular occasion when I phoned the police and I informed them that drug dealing was taking place the woman asked me how I knew that and that they would not be sending anyone out. To this I replied ‘you could at least make a note of my call and inform your local intelligence so that they can check out my information’. But from her attitude I doubt she did as the same car was operating there months afterwards!
I could go on and on with various occasions where I have attempted to assist the police, particularly in relation to drugs, but frankly its not worth my time.
