LETTER: We should be proud of our local theatre

I grew up in Sheffield, and although I have now lived in Chesterfield most of my adult life, I sometimes find myself comparing the standard of local productions with what is on offer at the Lyceum and Crucible Theatres. But sitting in the wonderful Pomegranate Theatre watching Chesterfield Operatic Society's awe-inspiring production of Jesus Christ Superstar, it was hard to believe this was an amateur production.

Everything about it spoke of creative talent at its best. It made me realise just how fortunate we are to have such a pool of local talent along with an accessible and atmospheric venue like the Pomegranate and also how important it is to support local productions - whilst saving ourselves from the trek into Sheffield and inflated ticket prices.
