LETTER: Register objections before it's too late

We are appalled to see a demolition notice suddenly posted on the '˜The Shrubberies', 46 Newbold Road, just weeks after the council refused planning permission for the proposed development of the site.

The reasons for refusal stated that the loss of the existing Victorian building ‘will result in the erosion of the character of area to the detriment of the appearance of the local area’ and that the ‘loss of protected trees will be detrimental to the... ecological and amenity contribution they provide’

Surely it cannot be right that developers are allowed to ignore the decision of the planning committee, especially as the council’s conservation officer has stated that ‘the property has historic and architectural value ... these Georgian style villas are increasingly uncommon in Chesterfield; the emphasis should be on retaining those that do remain as their loss is irreversible’

Objections must be made to the council by February 24, or the demolition will take place on March 15.
I would like to urge those who are concerned for keeping Chesterfield a pleasant place to live and value the nature of this historic town to write urgently to the planning committee at the town hall, Chesterfield S40 1LP, and also ask local councillors to take action to protect Chesterfield’s whole environment.
