LETTER: Join us at public meeting about fracking

Your article on the recent vote by councillors against fracking plans in the Eckington area reflects the growing concern in our region about the fracking industry.

One of the Government’s key justifications for fracking is to provide better energy security, however, renewable energy has a greater potential to provide long term energy security without the environmental hazards associated with fracking.

Developing our understanding of the role renewable energy can play in our future is a step towards protecting our local area and environment.

Your readers are warmly invited to a public meeting: ‘Renewable Energy: Keeping the Lights On’ to be held on the evening of Tuesday, February 7, at 7.30pm in Saints’ Parish Centre, St Mary’s Gate, Chesterfield. There will be two very knowledgeable speakers from Community Energy England and Sheffield Renewables who will consider how renewable energy and energy efficiency can meet our energy needs, as well as create jobs for the region.

Anyone who has doubts about the potential of renewable energy as a positive alternative to fossil fuels is urged to come along and join the discussion.
