LETTER: Chesterfield should house 50 refugee families

Have your say

I’m getting fed up of the hate-filled attitudes of those talking about ‘migrants’.
War refugees have always been looked after in times of crisis - in both the world wars and through many other conflicts. We have shown the compassion that British people are renowned for, the world over. After all, these families fleeing war zones are just like ours, and we realise that we could be next. None of us want to see more toddlers drowned on beaches as their parents frantically try to escape to safety. So, I’m asking Chesterfield Borough Council to help us to do our part - to tell central government that they will accept 50 families and house them in our area. We have 100,000 people in Chesterfield and we have spare room - 50 more families isn’t a large request.
