LEETER: Hero dog saved me too

I loved the article about Scooby the Leonberger - read the story here - it reminded me of the time my own Alsatian came to my rescue.

I’d gone in the bath and he was a horror for wandering in and putting his cold nose on my back.

I shooed him out of the bathroom and pushed the door closed behind him. He came back and did the same again. On that occasion I shoved him back onto the landing and slammed the door.

I got on with my bath but when I was getting out, I slipped. Within seconds he’d knocked the door open and was back in the bathroom.

As it was, I was okay - the only thing hurt was my pride.

But what I don’t understand is how he knew something was wrong. He might have heard the splash but he couldn’t have seen me fall.

All I can say is that he was a very astute dog.

Sadly, I lost him in February. I wonder if the dog I have now would react the same in similar circumstances? I hope I never find out.
