In reply to the writer of the letter complaining about the campaign to photograph cars parked on pavements ‘Save the moaning for the things that matter’ (Derbyshire Times, September 8, 2011) I would like to point out to this person that whatever his/her grumbles about the campaign against cars parked on pavements he or she has forgotten one small but very important point... it is against the law to park on the pavement.
The Highway Code, Rule 218 states, “Do not park partially or wholly on the pavement unless signs permit it.”
Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs, the visually impaired and people with pushchairs.
Need I say more?
