I’m glad society moves on: Give racism the red card

Back in the 1980s when I first became a regular visitor to Chesterfield Football Club’s old ground at Saltergate, I was totally appalled by the language being hurled from the terraces at opposing black players.

Now, thankfully, such insults and slurs are rarely heard around our modern stadiums.

So for me it was refreshing to be able to travel down to Exeter recently, to watch the Spireites come away with an impressive away win, with a team containing several black players.

Paul McCartney was spot-on when he recorded the 1980s number one with Stevie Wonder, ‘Ebony and Ivory’ it is the key to harmony.
