Whaley Bridge youngsters are being encouraged to reach for the stars and design a space-themed lantern for the town’s lantern procession and community fireworks display next month.

Children at Whaley Bridge, Taxal and Fernilee and Buxworth primary schools will be making lanterns at school, but other youngsters are being invited to take part in workshops being held at the Mechanics Institute in Whaley Bridge from noon until 6pm on Wednesday October 23 and from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on Saturday October 26.

On Saturday November 2, the lantern procession leaves Taxal and Fernilee School and winds its way through the Memorial Park to the bowling club for the start of the fireworks display at 7.30pm.

Lor Cole, chair of Whaley Bridge Fireworks Group, said: “We were thrilled with the success of our first fireworks night last year. If people want to help as volunteers, phone 07775 551 952 or email wha leyfireworks@gmail.com.”
