YOUNG Oliver Emment has been named as a parish’s boy bishop.

The tradition of selecting a youngster to step into the holy garb was revived by the recently appointed Father Kevin Ball of St Peter’s Church, Calow, who worked with teachers at Calow primary school to select Oliver for the role.

Headteacher, Martin Thacker, said: “We chose Oliver because he is a polite and caring boy who looks after other children in school.”

Oliver was appointed boy bishop on December 6, the feast of St Nicholas, and will be a special guest at services at St Peter’s church in the run up to Christmas.
