Woman '˜sexually assaulted' near canal

At around 1.45pm yesterday (Wednesday, March 15), a 39-year-old woman was running along Cromford canal path towards Ambergate from Whatstandwell when she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her.

He then ran off toward Whatstandwell. He is white, about 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build. He had fair hair and wore thick grey jogging bottoms, a grey hooded top and a grey cap.

Officers were sent to the scene to search for the man but did not find him. A spokesman for the force said the incident is not linked to the sexual assaults in Spondon and Darley Abbey of Derby that they are we are investigating.
