A TEENAGER has told how he was woken by a blood splattered murder suspect before police discovered a woman had been stabbed to death at the accused’s home.
Alexander Burnett, 32, of Westlea View, Clowne, allegedly murdered 52-year-old mum of three Lee Hendry, of Chesterfield, at his home after an evening of drink and sex with her.
A Nottingham Crown Court trial, today, May 22, heard how Burnett’s teenage friend, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told police he had been at the property while Burnett and Lee Hendry had sex upstairs.
The 17-year-old said he had slept overnight and been woken by Burnett covered in blood and he left before police later found Lee Hendry’s body in a bedroom.
The teenager said: “I was woken and Alex was in the doorway with blood on his hands and mouth.
“The blood was all over his hands. Both of them. Front and back and in the middle of his fingers.
“There was blood around his mouth and down his chin. It was solid and went on to both of his cheeks and down under his chin.”
The teenager said Burnett made him coffee and asked him to leave.
Burnett had been reunited with ex-girlfriend Lee Hendry after he spotted her on Facebook, according to prosecuting barrister Peter Joyce QC, and she had agreed to visit his home in September, last year.
Mr Joyce said Burnett and Lee Hendry had sex while the teenager was downstairs and he later slept in another bedroom to be woken by Burnett the following afternoon.
Mr Joyce said Burnett later handed himself in at Chesterfield police station and police searched his home and found Lee Hendry’s body in a bedroom with a stab wound to her neck.
Mr Joyce said the defence’s case is that this was an accident of sexual play.
Burnett has pleaded not guilty to murder. The case continues.
