WHAT do you think of this image which shows how Chesterfield’s market hall could look after a major overhaul?
The £4m revamp could see a new glazed atrium roof, suspended balcony and gallery area overlooking mobile pod trader units with a central cafe and seating.
However one Chesterfield trader has blasted the scheme as “despicable” and “a waste of money” and is calling on council chiefs to rethink their plans.
Elizabeth Shires, of Chesters Cafe on Newbold Road, has gathered a petition of 200 signatures against the proposals.
She said: “My customers are against it. They see the picture and say it looks like ‘La La Land’. It’s a waste of money and nobody wants it.”
Traders are expected to vacate their current stalls this month and a construction programme is being prepared so work can start in February.
Popular butchers, a fishmonger and the market cafe spoke out against the plans last month saying they had been left with nowhere to go.
