A couple have become the first pair to tie the knot at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel.
Lisa and David Guy were the first couple to book their wedding at the venue when their license was approved last year – and the first to get married there on July 26.
Lisa, 41, said: “Being the first to marry there just made our day more special.”
The contact centre advisor and her new husband David, aged 44, are just back from a luxury log cabin honeymoon in the Vale of York and are still on a high from their nuptials.
She said: “We chose the Winding Wheel after looking at various other places that seemed pricey.
“In the 70s the ballroom was a nightclub called Fusion and we are big fans of The Cure and we knew they played there, and I came down the aisle to a Cure song, so it all just seemed very fitting.
“The staff were extremely helpful with the organisation every step of the way and when the big day came, they couldn’t do enough for us.
“They were so friendly and accommodating, they helped our elderly relatives if they needed the toilet or to pop out for fresh air – it was a very warm day and Janice Hughes, the hospitality manager, noticed at one point that I was looking a bit hot and bothered and she offered to let me stand in the beer cellar for five minutes to cool down, which was much appreciated!”
She said there wasn’t a dry-eye in the house after impromptu speeches by daughters Emily McMenanin, 13, and Charlotte Guy, 19.
Councillor Amanda Serjeant, Chesterfield Borough Council’s executive member for leisure, culture and tourism said: “The Winding Wheel is a great location for lots of different events – and no more so than for a couple’s big day.
“I am really pleased that Lisa and Dave’s wedding was a happy occasion and thanks to our talented and organised team, who made sure the day went off without a hitch.”
