COUNCIL chiefs are calling on farmers to help keep the county’s roads clear of snow this winter.

The move was approved at meeting of Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet this morning (Tuesday) as the authority looks at ways to grit the area’s roads more efficiently and effectively following two years of harsh winter weather.

The council revealed it will offer a minimum annual payment of £200 to farmers and other external contractors for help with gritting and snow clearance.
