DETECTIVES are warning of a sudden rise in rogue traders preying on elderly and vulnerable people across the north east Derbyshire area.

Ten police tips to avoid doorstep cons

-DON’T let anybody in unless you’re sure who they are

-ASK for official identification and call any company listed to check out the person

-IF still unsure – don’t let them in

-DON’T feel pressured into getting work done on the spur of the moment

-GET quotes from different traders and seek satisfied customers instead

-CONSULT trusted family, friends or traders to see if work is actually required

-NEVER give out money upfront

-CALL police on 0345 123 33 33 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you have a suspicious caller

-DO not go to the bank with any strangers

-BE vigilant and look out for suspicious people in the area or in nearby vehicles
