Shocking CCTV footage showing a masked robber smashing up the counter at a Long Eaton shop has been released by police.

The incident occurred last month, and police have just released the video as part of their appeal for information.

A man dressed in a black hoodie with his face concealed, wearing camouflage trousers and workmen’s boots walked into the Co-op store on Grasmere Road armed with a hammer at around 9.40pm on October 14.

He yelled at staff to open the tills and put money in a carrier bag, and smashed the counter and tills with a hammer.

The robber then made off with money and a number of scratch cards that were either used or cashed in.

He then fled the store and road off on a grey bicycle in the direction of Longmoor Lane.

The man was white, about 5ft 7ins, of large build and thought to be aged between 20 and 30.

Detectives investigating the robbery want to hear from anyone who recognises the man’s clothing, which is quite distinctive.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call DC Gary Oakland on 101, quoting reference 16000323238.
