WATCH out for children near the roads – that’s the message from Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership at the start of the school holidays.
Partnership chairman Mike Ashworth said: “Our schools have broken up now and Derbyshire is a popular tourist destination so there will be lots of children out and about in the county this summer.
“We’re urging motorists to look out for youngsters and take extra care.”
Mike added: “We’re encouraging parents to set a good example when they’re out and about with their children this summer. We do lots of road safety training in our schools - but children copy their parents do so it’s important to follow the green cross code at all times.
“The government has a wealth of online resources for parents who want to teach their children about road safety. Log on to find short films, games and worksheets designed to complement the road safety lessons your child receives at school.”
