Police have issued a warning to motorists following a large amount of number plate thefts in Chesterfield.

Since April there have been 26 incidents reported to police of number plates being stolen. The majority of these thefts took place in Stonegravels, Newbold and Whittington Moor areas of the town.

Insp Steve Ball, Chesterfield Section Inspector said: “In some cases the number plates have been used to disguise vehicles in order for crime to be committed.

“We are offering free tamper proof number plate screws to the public. To get your free set visit Chesterfield enquiry office, Beetwell Street. These are limited to two per caller and stocks are limited.”
