Police are reminding people to be vigilant to a fake jewellery scam in Chesterfield after a man had his chain stolen by conmen.
At around 4pm on Saturday, February 4 a 48-year-old man was approached outside the Portland Hotel in Chesterfield town centre by three men who offered him jewellery.
They put a chain around the victim’s neck and asked him to buy it, but he declined. They then removed the victim’s own chain leaving the fake one in place.
It was only later that the victim realised what had happened and he contacted police.
The men were all between 20 and 30-years-old, they all wore black and were of Eastern European appearance.
Police are reminding people to be vigilant to strangers approaching them in the street and to report any suspicious behaviour.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Derbyshire police on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
