POLICE are urging residents to be vigilant after a pensioner became the victim of a distraction burglary.
A man knocked on the front door of an 89-year-old woman on Williamthorpe Road in North Wingfield at around 10am on Wednesday, claiming to be from the water board. He said there had been a burst pipe and that he needed to check the woman’s supply.
While the man and the pensioner were in the kitchen, a second man snuck in through the front door and searched upstairs and downstairs before taking some cash and leaving with the other man.
Any witnesses, or anyone with information, should call police on 0345 123 3333.
