Domenico Manfredi from Clay Cross has been voted the UK’s number one champion ice cream maker.
The accolade comes as Domenico’s family firm, Smiths Creamland Ices, celebrates 60 years in business.
Domenico, 82, runs his manufacturing business with his wife, Louise and three daughters Tina, Lorraine and Gianina.
The family’s dairy and vanilla ice cream won a hat trick of awards at the prestigious National Ice Cream Competition.
Domenico said: ”Our ice creams have been winning awards for more than 50 years but judged to be the best in the UK is an unbelievable honour.
“I’ve been making ice cream since 1954 and I have always held true to my principles of using the best natural and local ingredients to produce a great tasting ice cream.
“This year we are celebrating our business’s Silver Jubiliee and there could be no better way to start the celebrations than by becoming national ice cream champion. We are all very excited.”
Domenico’s wife Louise said:” I am so pleased for Domenico. He is so dedicated and still goes to work at 6am every day. Although he talks about retiring I don’t think he ever will - the ice cream business is in his blood!”
Zelica Carr, Chief Executive of The Ice Cream Alliance, said: “His ice cream is outstanding.”
