THESE jolly stars are set to grace the stage in a much-loved, long-running Derbyshire panto.

The Peak District village of Youlgreave is gearing up for a fun-filled fortnight as the community comes together to enjoy stunning performances of Aladdin in its annual pantomime, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary year.

Villager Jan Wilson has produced an astonishing 33 of the 50 pantomimes, which never fail to wow audiences at Youlgreave Village Hall.

She said: “This year we’re celebrating 50 golden years of Youlgreave Pantomime – it’s an absolutely wonderful record.

“It brings together the whole community – so many people work so hard – and it’s a lovely thing to be involved in.”

Jan’s late husband, Norman, started the pantomime back in 1962 and since then its popularity has spiralled.

She added: “In our golden year, I really hope people come and join in the fun and it’s a time to celebrate all those members of the community who have been involved in this traditional family pantomime over the past five decades.”

Aladdin runs at Youlgreave Village Hall from January 24 to February 4. Tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for children (opening night £3 and £1.50). Call the box office on 01629 636084.
