VIDEO: Wirksworth infants – two schools, one identity

Wirksworth Federation of Infant Schools are two infant schools within Wirksworth who are managed by the same headteacher and have one governing body but retain their individual small school status. However, because the schools are physically very close together, it has been possible to develop a single identity for the federation, to which children, parents, staff and the wider community can all relate.

The children of Wirksworth Federation of Infant Schools have had a busy time investigating minibeasts. Here are just a few of the exciting things which have been happening over the past half term.

Every child took part in a sponsored ‘bug and nature spotting walk’ which was organised by the school ECO Council, the walk was great fun and made even better by a welcome halfway snack of a ‘bug bun’ and drink.

The children were treated to a visit by ‘Zoolab’ who brought along a range of creepy crawlies including a giant cockroach and huge snail for the children to hold.

As part of a programme of planned activities promoting healthy lifestyles all the children took part in FEEL (Fitness, Exercising, Eating and Healthy living) good days during which everyone joined in with orienteering sessions, fun fitness workouts, healthy baking and then came together for a picnic to chat about what they had learned.

The term ended with a Spring and Easter celebration in St. Mary’s Church and a big bug parade down North End in Wirksworth.

Since September the Federation has provided many after school clubs for the children to take part in such as basketball, football, cookery, music, doodle and discover. This is in addition to the termly before and after school care service called AM PM Club which is on offer to all children in the Federation and at Wirksworth Junior School.
