Samantha Wragg, aged 28, advertised the ivory art deco dress on the buying and selling goods website to “foot the bill” for her divorce from her now former husband, Ross Partridge, who left her for another woman.

After receiving little interest in the dress in the first two weeks Ms Wragg decided to make the advertisement “funny”.

Describing the dress as ‘great condition but needs dry cleaning before wearing to get rid of the stench of betrayal’, the advert went viral worldwide and bidding reached a staggering £65,900. However, it is likely the fee received will actually be much lower due to the high number of ‘fake bids’.

Now Mr Partridge, who is currently working in the Spanish island of Majorca, has had his say - making it clear that his offer of paying half towards the divorce still stands.

In a video posted on YouTube, he said: “Hello world, so this last week you may have seen an article circulating the internet with regards to a wedding dress being sold on eBay to help fund the divorce. This is my response to that because I have had a lot of inquiries and I don’t write a blog so this is probably the best way to go about it.

“So, starting from the top, yep me and Samantha separated in January. This is due to the fact that, yeah, I fell in love with another woman. I subsequently moved out and moved in with the other woman. We are no longer together and Samantha now has her new boyfriend and we are both living our own separate lives now so we are not going to dwell on that.”

Mr Partridge then goes on to say that his offer of paying half towards their break-up still stands and suggests he could set-up a direct debit.

He continued: “But what I do want to clear up is the article with regards to paying for the divorce. When we agreed to start divorce proceedings, I was under the impress that we would be paying for the divorce half each. When the divorce papers came through asking me to pay for everything then yes I did refuse. So, as it stands the offer is still there. I am more then happy to pay for half of the divorce. If you want to set up a direct debit then I will transfer money into your account each month or whatever because I’m back out here in Majorca working. I will be back in England in about October-November time. So please do contact me because I am more than happy to pay for the half like I said from the start.”

The DJ ends the video by congratulating Samantha on her blog and by wishing her and her new boyfriend “all the best for the future”.

He added: “I just want to say on a personal note, Sam, if you are watching this, congratulations this has gone so big that none of us could have imagined. To go this big - worldwide, crazy. I have even had people coming in the bar talking about it and then I have talked to them back about it so yeah congratulations. I hope that on the back of this your blog gets a lot more recognition now because it deserves it. Your blog, like I have always said, is beautifully written even if you are taking down the articles about out adventures and epic fails which were some of the comedy stories.

“So as I finish this I just want to wish you and your new boyfriend all the best for the future. You deserve all the happiness in the future. You are truly an amazing, amazing woman and I hope that your new boyfriend will look after you.

“So yeah, anybody that has got any questions feel free to post them under the comments or find me on Twitter, I’m sure you’ll find it.”

Ms Wragg says her parents bought the dress brand new for £2,000 in 2014.

In the advert, she jokingly said: “If you want a dress that is full of bad memories and shattered hopes and dreams then this is the one for you.”

The advert viral and the story has since appeared on news channels in Austrailia and America.

Following the worldwide attention, Ms Wragg then posted a blog called ‘The truth behind THAT DRESS’, in which she explained the reaction the advert has received, including a couple of “proposals”.

“I had my wedding dress on eBay for two weeks with barely any views so I decided with a little help from my brother to make it funny,” she said.

“A lot of people have got the wrong end of the stick and think it’s really bitter but anyone who knows me knows I’ve got a great sense of humour and it’s very tongue in cheek.

“And to the people who have said ‘well, she won’t get any bids advertising like that’ – I don’t think you’ve quite understood.

“I literally can’t count the amount of messages I’ve had on eBay from both men and women wishing me all the best with everything…oh, and a couple of marriage proposals also!”

Ms Wragg signed off her blog by saying she has forgiven Mr Partridge.

“I wish my ex-husband all the best with everything,” she added. “Yes, he made a terrible and really hurtful mistake but he’s got to live with that. I forgive him and I’m very happy now.”
