POLICE in Chesterfield are appealing for witnesses after a number of missiles were thrown at cars from a footbridge over the A617.
On Saturday, May 28 police were called at around 6pm after a driver had to swerve to avoid being hit by an object as he travelled under a bridge on the A617 Hasland bypass.
The motorist described a boy around 12-years-old throwing items from Horns Bridge. He was wearing a red t-shirt and jeans and had blonde hair.
At around 9.50pm on Tuesday, May 17 a woman driving a Ford Focus along the A617 noticed two people standing on the footbridge. An object hit the roof of her car as she passed under the bridge.
Sergeant Mark Pearson who is in charge of neighbourhood policing in south Chesterfield, said: “This type of behaviour is extremely dangerous and anyone caught endangering the lives of motorists in this way will be punished.
“If you have information about anyone taking part in this reckless behaviour please contact police.”
Patrols in the problem areas have been increased to deter the behaviour.
