SHOTGUN-wielding vandals fired at a truck in a Peak District village.
The incident happened on January 16 at around 2pm in Longstone Lane in Ashford In The Water.
Resident Malcolm Adlington returned to his Mitsubishi Delica, which was parked in the farmyard off the lane, to find it was damaged by pellets.
Mr Adlington was walking with his children on the Monsal Trail when he spotted men with a shotgun on the path towards Little Longstone.
He said: “We saw them and witnessed them discharge their gun in the field next to the Monsal trail prior to reaching the yard where my van is and discovered it to have been shot through the radiator.
“Irresponsible, thoughtless and foolish people such as these ought not to have access to firearms.
“These reckless idiots have effectively written off my truck and left me greatly out of pocket.”
On Monday, January 15 a silver car was seen in the area and two men were spotted on farm land carrying a gun.
PC Dave Naylor said: “We are treating this incident very seriously.
“Although there is no evidence that the gun was fired in the direction of people, whoever used the weapon did so in an extremely reckless way.
“We’d like to speak to anyone who was in the area and are particularly keen to talk to the two youths who were nearby on Monday.”
Anyone who has any information should contact the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
