Unsung heroes honoured at Derbyshire Times Community Awards

Community champions who work selflessly to help others were honoured at a celebration event hosted by the Derbyshire Times.

The Derbyshire Times Community Awards took place at the Proact Stadium in Chesterfield on Wednesday, April 20.

Sixteen winners for categories ranging from sporting achievement and fundraising to dedicated teachers, hardworking students and carers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, were recognised.

Best Sports Coach: David Whittaker of Palterton Primary School

Best Teaching Assistant: Hayley Lynch of Whittington Green School

Best Primary Teacher: Rachel MacLeod of Gorseybrigg Primary School

Best Secondary Teacher: Sarah Fox of Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School

Best Volunteer: Jeff Hall

Best Breakfast/After School Club: St Andrew’s Kids Club

Fundraiser of the Year: Jacie Haggith

Inspirational Young Person: Hannah Rodgers

Outstanding Bravery: Lucy Needham

Special Achievement in the Community: John Aspinall

Best Sports Person: Ellie Simpson

Best Sports Team: Chesterfield & District Athletics Club U13 & U15 YDL Team
