TUPTON: Last of Summer Wine talk to WI by cast member Susan Malinson

Tupton

WI

The BBC’s “Last of the Summer Wine” was the story at the February meeting of Tupton WI, where Susan Malinson, professional performer and drama and speech coach, told us about her experiences as a member of the cast.

The daughter of Chesterfield speech coach Molly Francis, Susan told us about her life, starting at on the stage at the age of 6, her training at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and her experiences as an operatic singer and later as a teacher. Starting as an “extra” on the TV show, Susan went on to speaking parts, and the story of what goes on behind the scenes had us all enthralled. Sheila Wares gave the vote of thanks.

Debbie Fennell of Ashgate Hospice was presented with a cheque for £150, which had been raised by members of Tupton WI during 2012, and she thanked us on behalf of the Hospice, stressing the need for donations to support their wonderful work.

Jean Groom and Hilary Gregory made the refreshments.
