Chesterfield College hairdressing student, Michael Wild has been proudly flying the flag for the town in Japan this summer as the college signs a sister school agreement with Takasaki Beauty Mode College.
The college laid on a ten-day trip for work-based learner Michael, where he attended classes at Takasaki College, took part in its annual hair and beauty show and assisted in preparation for the Summer Live Event.
Concluding the trip, Michael was a special guest at the launch of the new agreement, which was televised on Japanese TV, and will now see an annual exchange of hairdressing and beauty therapy students and staff to promote the sharing of technical good practice and appreciation of cultural differences.
Michael said: “The whole experience has been really great and I would recommend any student who gets the opportunity to visit Japan under this new college arrangement to take this chance of a lifetime.”
During the trip Michael was accompanied by the hairdressing curriculum manager at Chesterfield College, Ian Elsom, who said, “The visit was a great success and it was incredible to study at close quarters the differences between training for the hairdressing and beauty therapy sector.
“We very much hope that this is the beginning of a very productive relationship between the hairdressing and beauty therapy department at Chesterfield College and Takasaki Beauty Mode, Japan.”
The college will now welcome visitors from Takasaki Beauty Mode College and HABIA (Hair and Beauty Industry Authority) Japan, during September in a reciprocal training arrangement.
