Tributes paid after ‘lovely’ young Derbyshire woman is found hanging from tree

A community is in mourning after the death of a “lovely” young woman in a Derbyshire village.

The body of Gemma Holt, 23, of Station New Road, Tupton, was found by passers-by at the weekend.

Members of the public called police at about 7.50pm on Sunday after they saw “something hanging from a tree” in a wooded area in Tupton, the opening of her inquest at Chesterfield coroners’ court heard on Wednesday.

Police and paramedics attended but Ms Holt was pronounced dead at the scene just before 8pm.

PC Kevin Edwards, of Derbyshire police, said Ms Holt was identified by her mother.

Tributes have been flooding in for Ms Holt on the Derbyshire Times’ Facebook page.

Keri Greatorex said: “Oh Gemma you had so much more life to live. RIP sweetheart. Love auntie Keri.”

Coroner James Newman said his office was still awaiting post-mortem results into her death and adjourned the inquest to a later date.

He added: “This is a sad, tragic death.

“Investigations are still at a very early stage.”
