The trial of two brothers charged with animal cruelty after a dog was found dead has been put back.

Police discovered the body of the animal at a property in Shuttlewood on November 10 last year.

Two men, Thomas Hill and James Hill, were arrested.

At Chesterfield magistrates’ court in February, Thomas Hill, 20, of Houfton Road, Bolsover, pleaded not guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, arson and criminal damage.

James Hill, 21, of Hillcrest Close, Bolsover, pleaded not guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and arson. He pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

They were granted conditional bail.

The brothers were due to stand trial at Chestefield magistrates’ court on Monday but this has been postponed until Monday, July 20.
