The first Christmas Tree Festival organised by All Saints’ Church Wingerworth has proved a great success, attracting hundreds of visitors and raising funds for the church.

Twenty trees, donated by The Avenue plant on Derby Road, were decorated by businesses and organisations throughout the village including a joint effort by both primary schools, the Wine Circle, Scouts, Guides, the Friendship Club and the play group.

Organiser Angela Howard explained: “The church is the centre of the village and not just a place to go to weddings and funerals. We hope the festival brought the community into the church so we could show people we are friendly and welcoming and that the church is there for everyone in the community.”

After the event the trees – minus their decorations – were sold for funds.
