A FORMER Trebor worker who describes her days at the old Chesterfield sweet factory as “the best memories of her life” is trying to organise a re-union party.
Dawn Whitley, 46, of Tapton, Chesterfield, has been inspired to get all her work mates back together after she met many of them for the first time in years at the sad funeral of their much loved colleague Eileen Needham.
Her plan was further boosted when she started waxing lyrical about the good old days with US entrepreneur Kenny Wiesen, of Iconic Candy, whom she contacted in an effort to help him revive the closed factory’s popular US export Regal Crown sweets.
Dawn said: “Eileen was such a big character at Trebor that there were about 50 people at her funeral and so many of them were old Trebor staff that it was wonderful to see everyone again.
“I worked at Trebor between 1968 and 2002 and I have some of the best memories of my life from that time and I want to sort out a re-union.”
Dawn worked in the high-boil department of the former factory, on Brimington Road, and her first aim is to get six of her closest workmates back together before sorting out a get-together for everyone at the factory from her era.
Her closest work mates included Eileen, Jackie Speed, Sharon Wood, Rachel Smith, Mark Hardwick and Maggie Mankel.
She added: “We’re all hoping to get back together very soon and sort out a bigger re-union for everyone at a later stage so we’d like to hear from any former Trebor staff who’d be interested in catching up on old times.”
Dawn is also eager to track down her old supervisor Joey Hancock.
Former Trebor worker Edward Plater, 81, of Bolsover, also got in touch with Iconic Candy to share his happy memories at Trebor from 1957 to 1992 after spotted an appeal in the Derbyshire Times from the US-based company.
The sweet factory shut down in 2005 with the loss of over 200 jobs after Cadbury Trebor Bassett switched production to other factories.
Those interested in a Trebor re-union are urged to call Dawn on 0775 6940252 and anyone with background information to help Iconic Candy’s sweet revival can email firstname.lastname@example.org with details.
