THE Government has announced £1.6m is set to be spent in Bolsover on 20 new pitches for travellers.
The new authorised travellers’ sites will help to reduce the number of unauthorised pitches, which create tensions between travellers and the settled community.
Communities Minister Andrew Stunell said: “This funding will help provide sites in a way that reflects local need in consultation with the local community.
“It will assist hundreds of traveller families find sites where they want to live and foster better relations with the existing communities and councils.”
The Homes and Communities Agency was unable to say where the 20 pitches will go.
A spokesman said: “We haven’t published details of where any of the pitches are going to be under this funding round, because they are still subject to negotiation. As such, it wouldn’t be appropriate for us to say where the Bolsover pitches will be.”
