CHESTERFIELD soap TV star Rik Makarem is in the running for two top celebrity honours after he has been nominated in this year’s prestigious Inside Soap Awards.

The ITV Emmerdale actor, who plays businessman Nikhil Sharma and has appeared in TV dramas Torchwood and Foyle’s War, is going head-to-head against other stars in the magazine Inside Soap’s popular competition.

Rik said: “It’s an honour to have been nominated and obviously I would love to come away victorious for Chesterfield but I need viewers’ votes.”

The 30 year-old has been nominated in the contest’s Funniest Soap Star category as well as its Sexiest Soap Star category and with support from Emmerdale fans and Derbyshire Times’ readers he hopes to make it a double celebration.

Rik who recently completed a 24 hour charity cycle ride for the Macmillan cancer charity and supported the Derbyshire Times and Polaris Flagg Cycle Challenge for Ashgate Hospice, on Sunday, July 22, is currently preparing for Emmerdale’s special 40th anniversary show.
