CYCLISTS and spectators from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire are invited to join one of the region’s most popular cyclo-cross events.
The Norton Wheelers’ cycling club is once again hosting its annual Norton Trophy Races, at Graves Park, off Cobnar Road, Sheffield, between Woodseats, Norton and Meadowhead, from 11am, on Sunday, October 9.
Club spokesman and event organiser Paul Sleaford said: “This is a great way for cyclists to crown their summer cycling season whether they race or just enjoy riding.
“We always look forward to seeing familiar faces and we’re always very happy to welcome first-timers to the event.
“Everyone who takes part will be giving it their all but there is always such a great atmosphere that just being involved and taking part will bring a lot of satisfaction.”
Cyclo-cross has been a main focus for the Norton Wheelers which was formed in the 1970s but following an incredible recent revival under organisers Darrell Bradbury and Lynn Bland it provides opportunities for cyclists of all standards and disciplines.
Entry, which is simply paid on the day, for the 11am, 30minute youths’ event costs £4, the 11.45am, 15minute, Under 12s’ event costs £1, and the 1pm, one-hour seniors’ and veterans’ event costs £8.
Boys, girls, men and women of all ages from all across the region are welcome and those interested in taking part are advised to use cyclo-cross or mountain bike cycles.
