Youngsters filled sweet tubes with cash to help the Royal British Legion and this year’s poppy appeal.

Tony Grindey vice chairman of Chesterfield Royal British Legion was presented with 25 smartie tubes by the 3rd Tibshelf brownies.

The 51-year-old, who fought during the Falkland conflict and had been with the Legion for a year now, said: “It was lovely to meet the brownies and they already knew a lot about the poppy appeal which was nice to see.

“On Remembrance Sunday they will be taking part in the parade to honour fallen soldiers so it is great that they have started collecting early.”

The work the youngsters did by collecting money will go towards another brownie badge for them.

Tony added: “Collecting in the sweet tubes was a great idea and really gets the next generation engaged because it becomes a competition to fill it.”

At the end of the session there was a poppy appeal quiz and Tony said everyone did really well.
