A MAN has been jailed for being involved in an assault on a teenager who had tried to break up a fight in a pub during New Year celebrations.

Derby Crown Court heard how the 18 year-old from Sheffield had tried to split up a fight at The Angel Inn, Killamarsh, in the early hours of January 1, 2011, when he was assaulted.

James Edge, 20, was one of a group of people who took part in the assault which left the victim with a broken jaw, according to police.

Edge, of Marrison Drive, Killamarsh, denied affray but was found guilty by a jury at Derby Crown Court.

He was sentenced to 12 months in a young offenders’ institution following a hearing on Tuesday, February 28.
