Three cheers at top music awards

Singers and musicians from Derbyshire were celebrating this week after scooping top awards.

John Tams, Bella Hardy and Lucy Ward had their achievements honoured in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards last night (Wednesday).

With a handful of awards to his credit from previous ceremonies, singer/guitarist John Tams, who lives in Nether Heage, scored a sixth as part of the band Home Service which won best live act.

Singer/songwriter and fiddle player Bella Hardy, of Edale, won best original song for The Herring Girl.

And Lucy Ward, who lives in Derby, scooped the Horizon award for best emerging artist.
