TOWN centre car parking fees have gone up this month in Chesterfield, ending a price freeze in the borough.
Chesterfield Borough Council agreed the changes, which will see an hour’s parking in a central spot up from £1.10 to £1.20.
The move ends a price freeze which had been in place from last October until early 2012.
Similar increases are in place across multi-storey car parks, and fringe parking areas. Ashgate Road car park – where two hours parking has gone from 50p to £1.60 – is the worst-hit spot.
The council said the changes reflect a simpler and more consistent system of parking charges. This will include free parking after 8pm at all car parks, with free parking promotions planned for the year.
